Last updated on November 18, 2020

Corona viruses have existed for a period now mostly in animals and only transmitted from animal to animal. The current variant COVID-19, however, is different. A mutation of the already existing that can be transferred from one human to another. It can be fatal, especially to those with weakened immune systems.

A person can acquire the virus when he/she comes into contact with secretions from infected animals and humans. Most importantly, through exposure factors such as a cough, sneeze and even a handshake. Therefore touching something another person has touched and going ahead to touch your face and mouth is something you would want to avoid now.

What to do?

Symptoms include fever, runny nose, sore throat, headaches and coughs. To prevent it, a person must take the following precautionary measures.

  • Wash hands with soap and water regularly. if possible always have a hand-sanitiser readily available.
  • Cover mouth and nose when you sneeze or cough
  • disinfect surfaces and items you touch
  • drink lots of fluids
  • rest and sleep as much as possible
  • and finally, if you have any of those symptoms, kindly stay home and avoid crowds.

Is there a cure?

There is no known cure for now. All doctors can do is to put a person on medications and hope the immune system would fight it off eventually. Stay safe.
